County Waste Diversion Rates* for 2001 through
2006
As Reported by the Maryland Department of the Environment
HARFORD County led the
state in 2006
* A waste diversion rate equals a county's recycling rate plus
a credit for waste prevention activities on a scale from 0% to 5% depending
on what a county has implemented on a Maryland Department of the
Environment (MDE) checklist of options. MRC, in
cooperation with MDE, spearheaded the successful effort in the year 2000 to
enact a voluntary statewide goal of at least 40% waste diversion by 2005, a goal
Maryland met in 2005. This achievement is cause for
celebration by the state as a whole, and MRC in particular!
