ARD
is an annual event which promotes
recycling, buying recycled products, and the conservation of natural resources.
While the date of November 15th continues to be the culminating celebration
date, the Maryland Recycling Coalition believes that recycling should be a daily
activity. Most educational and participating events are held during the months of
September through November, and Spring events are also encouraged.

America Recycles Day, 2007
A Proclamation by the President of the United States of
America
As citizens of this great Nation, we have a
responsibility to practice good environmental
stewardship. On America Recycles Day, we underscore our
commitment to conserving our resources by recycling.
Through curbside collections and drop off facilities,
we are turning waste materials -- including plastic,
glass, aluminum cans, paper, tires, batteries, and
building materials -- into valuable resources. Recycling
is one of our Nation's most successful environmental
initiatives, and my Administration is working to
increase opportunities for our citizens, communities,
and businesses to recycle. The Resource Conservation
Challenge, created by the Environmental Protection
Agency, encourages public and private partnerships to
promote recycling. Through Plug-In To eCycling, we are
helping reduce waste by providing consumers with
information on how and where they can donate or safely
recycle old electronics. Working together, we can
conserve valuable resources and energy by managing
materials more efficiently.
On America Recycles Day and throughout the year, I
encourage all Americans to recycle appropriate materials
and products. By recycling, reducing greenhouse gas
emissions, and conserving energy, we can help build a
healthier environment for everyone.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President
of the United States of America, by virtue of the
authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of
the United States, do hereby proclaim November 15, 2007,
as America Recycles Day. I call upon the people of the
United States to observe this day with appropriate
programs and activities.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my
hand this fifteenth day of November, in the year of our
Lord two thousand seven, and of the Independence of the
United States of America the two hundred and
thirty-second.
GEORGE W. BUSH

Web Site Updated
Washington D.C. ― October, 2007:
America Recycles Day, Inc., a program of the National Recycling Coalition, Inc.,
unveiled its updated website earlier this month. The new website, along
with new logo and graphics, encourages people to recycle and spread the
word about the benefits of recycling.
While colors and layout have changed significantly
from the previous website, the helpful topics remain the same. Visitors
to the website will find easier access to the calendar of events
as well as a new link called the "CONVERSIONATOR" that helps you
calculate your recycling's impact. Another new item found on the website
is the ability to download a plastic or paper "digital pledge badge"
(see the graphic below this article).
Two new sponsors, of the five for 2007 include the
Coke-Cola Company and Dell. Other sponsors include the U.S. EPA,
Staples, and Waste Management Recycle America.
In the past America Recycles Day has awarded
eco-friendly homes, alternative-fueled vehicles, recycled content
bicycles and environmental trips. This year the focus is on
encouraging people to Take The
Pledge. America Recycles Day, Inc. (ARD) has
eliminated the prize element of the event and will not hold a nation-wide
drawing.

New York Man Wins
2006 National Recycling Prize
Albany, NY –April 3, 2007 – America Recycles Day, Inc. today
awarded its National Grand Prize, a seven-day Alaskan cruise, to Michael
Young of Phoenix, New York. Michael’s pledge to recycle more was drawn
from nearly 200,000 pledges entered in the national drawing during last
year’s America Recycles campaign, which is celebrated on November 15 of
each year.
America Recycles awards prizes such as fuel-efficient cars, bikes
composed of recycled content, and in some years, eco-friendly houses to
raise awareness of the importance of recycling and buying products made
from recycled materials. In 2006, Americans of all ages from all 50
states filled out pledge cards, which were entered into the drawing. The
pledge cards, submitted at more than 900 America Recycles events
nationwide and via the America Recycles website, ask participants to
affirm their commitment to recycling and buying recycled products.
Young and a guest will embark for Alaska onboard Royal Caribbean’s
Vision of the Seas, a state-of-the-art ship chosen for this prize
because of its environmentally friendly water purification system. This
technologically advanced system is used to clean all wastewater
generated onboard the ship to levels much higher than required by all
existing standards. Royal Caribbean plans to install these systems in
all of its ships by the end of 2007 as part of the cruise line’s
continued commitment to environmental improvement. While onboard Vision
of the Seas, Young and a guest will travel to Juneau and Skagway,
Alaska, and Prince Rupert, British Columbia, as well as sail through
Alaska’s famous Inside Passage.
America Recycles events are coordinated throughout New York by the
Department of Environmental Conservation, as well as at the local level
through county agencies.
