MRC & SWANA’s Mid-Atlantic
Chapter’s 1st Joint Conference on June 8 and 9 was
the most successful conference MRC has held to date. There were
14 sponsors and 15 exhibitors. MRC had a net revenue of
approximately $23,000. The conference was well attended, with
roughly 100 people over both days. DETAILS

2005: "Do You Believe in Reincarnation?"
November 15 will be here before we
know it, marking yet another America Recycles Day. Posters
asking “Do You Believe in Reincarnation?” and touting “It’s
Always Better the Second Time Around” are being distributed to
county contacts, as well as recycled pencils that read “I Used
To Be a Newspaper.”

An
Environmental Design for the Maryland Department of the
Environment
In September of 2002,
the Montgomery Park building became the new home
of the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE). The former
Montgomery Wards building in Baltimore City, built between 1925
and 1927, was reused and transformed into a modern
environmentally friendly building, also known as a "green

MRC's 2005-06 Board of Directors
Brian Ryerson will serve as
president of the Maryland Recyclers Coalition this year. Follow
officers are Vice President Virginia Lipscomb, Chairperson
Robert Stumpff , Secretary Charles Reighart and Treasurer Chaz
Miller.
MRC directors
are Bob Ernst , Pam Kasemeyer, Sarah Manning, Bruce Norton, Tom
Parran, Marilyn Rybak, Ford Schumann, Lori Scozzafava, Steve
Stein, Craig Stuart-Paul, Alan Wilcom and James Wood. Jackie
King continues to serve as executive director.
MRC Welcomes Kaymie Thompson Owen
MRC has a new Director of Meetings
and Member Services: Kaymie Thompson Owen. Kaymie will work
with Jackie King in orchestrating association events and
facilitating membership services. Members will receive
electronic and print mailings from her in the future.

Annual THINGAMAJIG
The YMCA of Metropolitan
Washington brought inspiration to life at the 11th
Annual THINGAMAJIG Invention Convention. On August 4, 2005,
nearly 3,000 children of all ages showed off their unique
designs and inventions to the community at the Show Place Arena
& Prince George’s Equestrian Center in Upper Marlboro.

Recycle Rama at the 25th Annual Kinderfest
Staff from the Prince George's
County Recycling Section has once again partnered with the
Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission,
Department of Parks and Recreation, to bring Recycle Rama, a
home recycling adventure, to the 25th Annual
Kinderfest. The festival, which will be held on October 2 at
Watkins Regional Park in Upper Marlboro, from 12 noon to 5 p.m.,
is expected to attract more than 5,000 attendees.
Kinderfest has something for
everyone from hayrides to face painting. There's a pumpkin
patch, train ride, carousel, and pony rides. Plenty of food,
entertainment, and games promise to make this event an exciting
family outing.
Recycle Rama will feature
recycling exhibits, source reduction education, and recycling
games and activities that promote recycling.
Prince George's County invites you
