2004 MRC 16th Annual Conference

and Training Exposition Set for May 26-28

The 16th Annual MRC Conference and Training Exposition will be held at the Community College of Baltimore County Catonsville Campus again this year, May 26-28. Some of the sessions currently being planned are Document Destruction and Identity Theft, Disaster Preparedness, and Buy Recycled and Environmentally Preferable Purchasing. The conference will also have exhibits, lunches, cocktail reception and annual dinner, a facility tour, and a silent auction. Donations for the

silent auction are welcomed; please contact Kim Reichart at 410-313-6444 for more information about donating.

The MRC Conference is a great chance to network with fellow industry professionals, learn new information, and have some fun! Anyone interested in attending or exhibiting at the conference should please call 443-640-1050.  

Craig Stuart-Paul becomes MRC President

Craig Stuart-Paul, President of MRC for 2004, is also the recycling market area manager for Recycle America Alliance. He was previously president of Fairfax Recycling, Inc., and before that the president of Resource Recovery, Inc. Craig is also principal shareholder of Atlantic Recycling Technologies, a company that will be manufacturing cellulose insulation and other similar products from low grade recycled fiber. Another interesting pastime of Craig’s is brewing beer, and he oversees the brewing process at Ryleigh’s Restaurant in Federal Hill.

Statewide Waste Diversion Rate

Approaches 40 Percent Goal

The Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) announced that Maryland’s waste diversion rate for calendar year 2002 was 39.5%. This waste diversion rate consists of a 37% recycling rate plus a 2.5% source reduction activities credit. DETAILS

At its quarterly meeting of the county recycling and solid waste managers on October 9, 2003, MDE presented Certificates For Outstanding Achievement to county representatives. DETAILS
